Man Jumps from Cruise Ship in Caribbean

20-Year-Old Went Overboard on May 24

Coast Guard Calls Incident "Tragic"

A 20-year-old man overboard on a Carnival Cruise ship in the Caribbean jumped overboard, officials said Monday.

The United States Coast Guard has called the incident "tragic" and said that it is still investigating what led to the man going overboard.

The man, whose name has not been released, was on a cruise with several friends when he went overboard on May 24. The ship was about 11 hours out of Miami and headed to the Bahamas.

The Coast Guard said that it was notified of the incident at about 10:30 p.m. EDT. A search and rescue operation was immediately launched, but the man was not found.

The Coast Guard said that it is still investigating the incident and that it is too early to say what caused the man to go overboard.

The man's death is the second overboard incident on a Carnival Cruise ship in the past year. In November, a 22-year-old woman went overboard on a Carnival Cruise ship in the Gulf of Mexico. Her body was never found.

Carnival Cruise Lines said in a statement that it is "deeply saddened" by the man's death and that it is cooperating with the Coast Guard's investigation.
