Irish Pair Advance to Finals at World U20 Athletics

Two Irish athletes have advanced to the finals of their respective events at the World U20 Athletics Championships in Cali, Colombia.

Sarah Healy and Conor McCann both progressed through their semi-finals on Wednesday to set up a shot at medals on Friday.

Healy, who won bronze in the 1500m at the European U20 Championships last year, finished third in her semi-final in a time of 4:14.84.

The 19-year-old from Kilkenny will now line up in the 1500m final on Friday evening.

McCann, meanwhile, finished fifth in his 1500m semi-final in a time of 3:43.54.

The 18-year-old from Sligo will also compete in the 1500m final on Friday evening.

This is the first time that two Irish athletes have reached the finals of the 1500m at the World U20 Athletics Championships.

It is a major achievement for both Healy and McCann, and they will be hoping to finish on the podium on Friday.
